February 7, 2007 – From February 5-8, 2007, the HHS Office of Global Health Affairs; the Office of International Programs, and the Center for Food Safety and Nutrition within the HHS Food and Drug Administration and the Foreign Agricultural Service of the U.S. Department of Agriculture are conducting the United States-North African Food Safety Regulatory Forum, in Morocco. Under President Bush’s Middle East Partnership Initiative (MEPI), the Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs within the U.S. Department of State provided financial support for the forum. The objectives of the forum are to provide detailed, specific information about the U.S. food safety system, and the requirements for exporting foods to the United States, and to facilitate discussion about the challenges in food safety our North African trading partners face. The 200 participants in the forum come from the Kingdom of Morocco, the People's Democratic Republic of Algeria, the Tunisian Republic, the Arab Republic of Egypt, and the Socialist People's Libyan Arab Jamahiriya.
