Presidential Mission to Africa Led by Secretary of Health and Human Services, Tommy G. Thompson

March 31, 2002 - The Presidential Mission to Africa included stops in Mozambique, South Africa, Botswana, and Côte d'Ivoire. The trip was intended to help strengthen partnerships and strategies to combat HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and malaria, which, when combined, claim six million lives each year.

 

The visit provided the first opportunity to take the message of the Millennium Challenge Account directly to high-level African leaders.

 

The Honorable Tommy G. Thompson, Secretary of Health and Human Services, headed the delegation. Others on the delegation included:
