Secretary Leavitt Meets with Hungarian Minister of Health

April 4, 2005 - Secretary Michael Leavitt met with the Honorable Jenö Rácz, Minister of Health of the Republic of Hungary. The Secretary offered his support for continuing the collaboration begun under the HHS-Hungarian understanding agreement signed on January 14, 2005.

 

Under the agreement, the Hungarians wish to focus on prevention and health promotion; managed care health services; information technology; epidemiology: bioterrorism; and medical research. The Ambassador of Hungary, András Simonyi, is a supporter of this agreement and intends to play an active role.

 

Minister Rácz is a physician who has served as a trauma surgeon and an organizer of health care delivery. During this visit to HHS, Minister Rácz visited the National Institutes of Health, the U.S. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Office of Global Health Affairs.
