HHS Deputy Secretary Alex M. Azar II Meets with the Polish Minister of Education and Science

April 10, 2006 - The Honorable Alex M. Azar II, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, met with His Excellency Michal Sewerynski, Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Poland, to discuss further collaboration in science and technology between the United States and Poland. The government of Poland and the U.S. State Department signed a Science and Technology (S&T) Agreement on February 10, 2006 which will encourage scientists and engineers from both nations to exchange scientific and technical knowledge, implement advanced and applied research projects, and expand training activities.

 

HHS Deputy Secretary Azar and Minister Sewerynski discussed the Polish government's current plans for reforming scientific research and development, as well as the importance of introducing innovative pharmaceuticals into health care systems. The Deputy Secretary announced his intention to visit Poland in June 2006 to hold discussions with Polish governmental officials and health sector business leaders.
