U.S.-México Border Health Commission Announces the Annual Celebration of National Infant Immunization Week and Vaccination Week in the Americas, April 25-May 2, 2009

April 24, 2009 - The United States-México Border Health Commission (BHC) wishes to announce that it will join with other local, state and national partners to celebrate National Infant Immunization Week and Vaccination Week in the Americas (NIIW/VWA) 2009 along the United States-México border, from April 25-May 2, to focus attention on the importance of immunizing and protecting children.

For the sixth consecutive year, the BHC will partner with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), and the ten Border States to highlight NIIW/VWA activities throughout the border region.

The San Ysidro Health Center in San Diego, the County of San Diego Health and Human Services Agency (HHSA) and the California Office of Binational Border Health (COBBH), an office of the California Department of Public Health, will serve as hosts for the 2009 NIIW/VWA border inaugural event.  NIIW/VWA provides an exciting opportunity to unite communities from throughout the border and both nations to ensure that all children have a healthy and safe childhood free from vaccine-preventable diseases.
