HHS Secretary Addresses Meeting of European Union Health Ministers in Vienna, AustriaApril 27, 2006 - The Honorable Mike Leavitt, Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), addressed the Informal Meeting of European Union Health Ministers in Vienna, Austria, on April 26, 2006, at the invitation of the Austrian Federal Minister for Health and Women, the Honorable Maria Rauch-Kallat. The Secretary spoke to his peers on women's health and health information technology and the evolution of more personalized medicine. The growing problem of diabetes in Europe was another key topic of the meeting. Later in the day, at the Medical University of Vienna, the Secretary spoke to students and answered their questions on health care reform, patient-centered care, health information technology, and the need to prepare for a potential influenza pandemic. The Secretary travels next to the first-ever meeting of the G-8 health ministers, in Moscow, Russian Federation, on Friday, April 28, 2006.
