HHS Deputy Secretary Meets with Latvian Minister of Health

May 2, 2006 - The Honorable Alex M. Azar II, Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, met with the Honorable Gundars Berzinš, Minister of Health of Latvia, to discuss areas of mutual interest in health. Deputy Secretary Azar and Minister Berzinš discussed different strategies to improve the efficiency of hospital systems and manage health care costs, and to promote anti-smoking campaigns.

Minister Berzinš and his delegation are visiting Washington, D.C., to attend the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Conference on Healthcare Modernization in Central and Eastern Europe, co-sponsored by Johns Hopkins Medicine International.
