May 11, 2009 - U.S. Secretary of Health & Human Services Kathleen Sebelius met with His Excellency Sayed Mohammad Amin Fatemi, M.D., Minister of Public Health of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and his delegation today at the Department of Health and Human Services in Washington, D.C.
Minister Fatemi discussed the successes and challenges of health care delivery in Afghanistan with the Secretary, and stated his appreciation for the continued support from the United States and the Department.
The Secretary indicated how pleased she was to hear of the progress being made in extending the delivery of health care in Afghanistan, and with the contribution being made by the Department’s Afghanistan Health Initiative to improving health outcomes of mothers and newborns in Kabul, as well as by the numerous collaborations underway between the Department and the Ministry of Health.
