U.S. and French Surgeons General Discuss Preparations for Medical Emergencies

May 24, 2006, Washington D.C. - Vice Admiral Richard H. Carmona, M.D., M.P.H., FACS, Surgeon General of the U.S. Public Health Service within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), and Médecin Général des Armées Bernard Lafont, LTG, M.D., Surgeon General of the French Uniformed Health Services, met to discuss preparing to use military and civilian personnel in a medical emergency. The two Surgeons General shared information about the U. S. Surgeon General's Medical Reserve Corps, a group of over 80,000 volunteers who have signed up to provide care in an emergency, and the medical reserve and civilian personnel in the French Uniformed Services.
