"Tuberculosis along the U.S.-México Border"

June 8, 2009 - The United States-México Border Health Commission (BHC) wishes to share this white paper on Tuberculosis along the U.S. - México Border which summarizes tuberculosis prevention and control activities and further addresses a number of critical challenges involved in tackling the binational TB problem along the U.S.-México border.

The BHC has recently identified tuberculosis as a priority for the border region.  This issue is specifically separated from other infectious diseases because of its impact on the border and the importance placed upon it by all Federal, state and community stakeholders.  The BHC is proposing to bring added attention to this problem by acting on a number of initiatives in 2010, including the hosting of binational meetings on the prevention and control of TB in the border region and on the specific legal issues which will help to identify legal considerations and barriers regarding TB control for patients who migrate across the international border.
