HHS Deputy Secretary Azar Delivers Remarks at U.S.-Arab Economic Forum in Houston, TexasJune 27, 2006 - U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) Deputy Secretary Alex M. Azar II delivered remarks today at the U.S.-Arab Economic Forum (USAEF) in Houston, Texas. Hosted in partnership with the League of Arab States, the U.S. Departments of Commerce and State, and the Gulf Cooperation Council, the forum brings together corporate leaders and policymakers to strengthen U.S.-Arab relations. The objective of the U.S.-Arab Economic Forum is to initiate reciprocal partnerships to promote economic growth and integration, free trade, entrepreneurship, public/private partnerships, and a modern, innovative, and competitive Middle Eastern society. Deputy Secretary Azar spoke on how healthy populations are critical to building prosperous economies, and how HHS and other U.S. government agencies have been working with the Middle East and North Africa to meet a number of the region’s health care challenges.
