July 10, 2007 - The President and Mrs. Bush hosted a White House Conference on the Americas on July 9, 2007. At the conference, Secretary of Health and Human Services, Michael O. Leavitt, chaired an interactive panel on health care.

 

With the theme of "Advancing the Cause of Social Justice in the Americas," the conference included representatives of approximately 150 regional-based and 100 United States-based non-governmental organizations, the private sector, and foundations to discuss and highlight the vast array of societal interaction between the United States and its neighbors to better the lives of the region’s citizens.

 

Topics covered were expanding economic opportunity, investing in education, meeting health-care needs, and building public-private partnerships.
