Third Training of Central Americans Takes Place at the Regional Health-Care Training Center in Panamá City

September 24, 2007 – The third training on influenza preparedness and response for Central American health-care workers is taking place at the Regional Health-Care Training Center in Panamá City from September 16 to 30, 2007, with 50 students of diverse medical and public-health backgrounds from six countries. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is the prime sponsor of the Training Center, in partnership with the Ministries of Health of six Central American nations.
On September 22, 2007, the group had the privilege to meet the new Minister of Health of Panamá, Rosario Turner, M.D., who took office on September 1, 2007. Dr. Rosaly Correa-de-Araujo, Director of the Office of the Americas in the Office of Global Health Affairs at HHS, traveled to Panamá to attend the first week of training, serve as part of the faculty, and meet with Minister Turner.
