HHS/FDA Urges U.S. Consumers to Use Caution with Ayurvedic Products
October 16, 2008 - Ayurvedic medicine is a traditional system of healing arts that originated in India. It involves using products such as spices, herbs, vitamins, proteins, minerals and metals (e.g., mercury, lead, iron, zinc). Most Ayurvedic products are marketed either for drug uses not approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), or as dietary supplements. Consumers should understand HHS/FDA has not approved these products.
