HHS Deputy Secretary Meets with the Ambassador of the Kingdom of DenmarkOctober 23, 2006 - The Honorable Alex M. Azar II, Deputy Secretary of the U. S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and the Honorable Friis Arne Petersen, Ambassador of the Kingdom of Denmark to the United States, met on October 19, 2006, to discuss ways to collaborate in the fight against bioterrorism and the effort to develop a vaccine for highly pathogenic avian influenza. Denmark is a leader in biotechnology research and has a number of major pharmaceutical companies. Ambassador Petersen’s visit was one of several between the Government of Denmark and U.S. Federal Departments and agencies to build partnerships in these efforts. The Royal Danish Embassy participated in the HHS BioShield Stakeholders Workshop in Washington, DC, September 25-26, 2006 in Washington, DC, and hosted an HHS Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Seminar for the Danish BioPharma Industry in Copenhagen, Denmark, October 11-12, 2006.
