Director of the HHS National Institutes of Health Lectures on the Future of Biomedical Research in Paris, France

October 27, 2006 - The Honorable Elias Zerhouni, M.D., Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), delivered the Antoine Béclère Lecture entitled “Future Imagery and Medical Research: Visions and Strategies,” at the French Radiological Society Meeting, Journées Françaises de Radiologic 2006, on October 23, 2006, in Paris, France. Dr. Zerhouni is a well-respected leader in the fields of radiology and medicine, as well as in science administration.

 

Professor Antoine Béclère was a French clinician who, when in 1895, Wilhelm Conrad Röntgen (alternative German spelling-Roentgen) announced his discovery of what was to become X-rays, studied physics to learn radiology, a term he coined.

 

In addition, Dr. Zerhouni gave a keynote address on October 25, 2006, on new models of research, training and health-care delivery, as well as the HHS/NIH’s global view of bioenterprise and research, at the Grand Plenary Session on Innovation and Research at the EuroBio 2006 Meeting, in Paris, France.
