President's Malaria Initiative Awards First Grants Under Malaria Communities Program

November 15, 2007 - Rear ADM Tim Ziemer (U.S. Navy, ret.), the U.S. Malaria Coordinator, has announced the first grants under the Malaria Communities Program (MCP), part of the President's Malaria Initiative. The MCP will help extend the coverage of malaria prevention and control activities in communities most affected by malaria, with special attention to children under age five years and pregnant women. The MCP focuses on assisting communities and indigenous organizations that are new to partnering with the U.S. Government in their efforts to combat malaria in Africa.
